Chorley Local News: Boost For Chorleys Broadband

Adlington now have access to faster broadband in 4,000 homes and businesses.
The village is the latest community in Lancashire to benefit from BT's next generation broadband service delivered over copper lines.
These improvements give the user speeds up to 20 megabits per second, more than double previous speeds.
BT have also announced that Rufford will also be added to the faster broadband programme and be upgraded later this year.
The technology is said to already be available in more than 40 Lancashire communities.
90 percent of homes and businesses in the region will be served by an exchange which has been upgraded to deliver these higher speeds by next spring.

Chorley Local News: Customers Left Outraged with Voucher Value

Customers have been left outraged after being told their vouchers are only worth a few pence.
Although Chorley's Peacocks store was remained open, 224 of its sister stores across the country have been closed down.
KPMG, joint administrators of Peacocks, announced that the business had been sold to one of the largest UK chains, Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
But, despite doing business as usual, the store has been instructed to stop accepting vouchers, due to the amount of debt that the company is in.
This means that customers who have bought vouchers are left to fill out a form, to claim some of their lost money back. But, for a £10 voucher, Peacocks are only able to offer seven pence back.

A generous business man has spent thousands of pounds of his own money to buy a new delivery van for a Chorley charity shop.
Managers of The Children's Society shop in Market Walk shopping centre were facing the troublesome dilemma of whether to carry out numerous expensive repairs for their old van or somehow find cash for a new one, when Brendan Ainscough came along.
The father of three, who is director of industrial services company, Ainscough Vanguard, donated more than £16,000 for the van.
The vehicle is to be used by the charity to collect large donations from people who are unable to get them to the shop themselves and to shift stock between the 15 Children's Society shops in the north west.

Chorley Local News: Two People Arrested Following Illegal Payments

Two people in Lancashire, one of which is a former member of the armed forces, have been arrested by detectives investigating illegal payments to public officials.
The Sun's royal editor, Duncan Larcombe was also arrested in a dawn swoop on his home in Kent on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office.
Police have said the arrests were prompted by information provided by News Corporation's management standards committee (MSC), which was set up in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal that led to the closure of the News of the World last July.

Chorley Local News: Chorley Dog Attacked Four Postworkers

A German Shepherd known as “Vicki” has terrorised postal workers in Chorley and has been ordered off the streets.
The dog, which belongs to owner Gourpeaji Singh, of Montcliffe Road, will be kept muzzled after four separate attacks on Royal Mail workers.
It comes after a hearing on Friday where it was heard that a postwoman was pushing her mail trolley along Brooke Street, in the direction of Eaves Lane in July last year when she passed Singh and his brother who were walking Vicki.
The German Shepherd bit the postwoman on her upper thigh and the defendant and his brother pulled the dog back. The attack was witnessed by another person on the same stretch of road.

Chorley Local News: Part-time 20mph Speed Limit Brought in for School

The message “Twenty's Plenty” is to drivers from parents, teachers and pupils at a school in Chorley, the first in the country to benefit from a new programme to lower traffic speeds near schools.
New flashing signs have been installed on Bolton Road, outside Abbey Village Primary, which will enforce the lower speed limit at the schools opening and closing times.
Lancashire County Council is currently introducing 20mph limits in all residential areas.
A part-time 20mph limits for around 160 schools located on busier roads will also be brought in place.
Cabinet member for highways and transport, Tim Ashton has said: “We already work closely with teachers and parents to plan the way children travel to and from school with safety in mind....
