The Great North Dog Walk

South Tyneside was riddled with over 23000 Dogs on Sunday as the Great North Dog Walk took place. The walk is now in its 23rd year and sees dogs and their owners walk through the Leas area of the town to raise money for Charities such as Help for Heroes this year, in memory of Soldier Lee Rigby, who was killed on 22nd May.  The number of participants has increased rapidly since the event began, with the first few walks attracting fewer than 350 dogs along the 3.5 mile coastal route. Tony Carlisle who founded the event said: “We've had the Great North Run in the North East for many years. Sainsbury’s Deepdale store is delighted to announce that Galloway’s Society for the Blind will be their new charity of the year. The charity, established in 1867, provides a wide range of services to over 7000 blind and visually impaired people across Lancashire. Customers had a huge say in this years selection process and voted in-store and online between the 1st to the 15th of May. A store committee lead by the Store Manager then shortlisted the most popular with Galloway’s being the eventual choice.
